Life Fabric (Rikmat Haim)
Inspired by the life stories of the victims of October 7 and the war.

The Life Fabric art exhibition transforms memory into a living, evolving work of art.

It brings together bereaved families—whether from military or civilian losses in the tragic events of October 7th and the Iron Swords War—with artists from diverse disciplines. Together, they embark on a journey of remembrance, documentation, storytelling, and creation, offering space for deep connection, attentive listening, mutual support, and healing.

The Museum of Jewish Art is a full partner in this process—training artists as “memory designers,” facilitating meetings between them and the families, hosting the Life Fabric 2024 exhibition in its foyer, and producing the current display. Just as the museum’s permanent exhibitions present objects imbued with stories and tied to Jewish memory, Life Fabric offers a new and deeply personal layer of remembrance.

Project Leadership

Basmat Hazan

Theater director, playwright, and author; curator and facilitator of multidisciplinary artistic processes; director of Midrash schools; cultural entrepreneur.

Ayelet Escojido

Documentary writer, editor, and literary producer; lecturer and leader of writing workshops.

The process is unique: artists meet parents, siblings, children, grandparents, and sometimes close friends, and learn about the person they are memorializing. From these encounters, works are created that reflect and evoke life—giving a name, a face, and form to experiences often too deep for words.
The exhibition holds many voices—pain and brokenness alongside beauty and hope. It invites visitors to face complexity, ask difficult questions, and recognize our shared responsibility. By investing in art, in beauty, and in creation, we declare:
The immense loss we have endured since October 7th must be met with creativity and hope, inspired by the lives, values, dreams, and aspirations of each and every person lost. Each one a whole world, whose story will continue to shine, resonate, and connect hearts for years to come.
We continue—building, creating—because creation is an act of hope.
